what happened today is a confusing but wonderful surprise...
when i bought this bike (slightly used), i loved it in EVERY way except the sound....to me it sounded more like my old 1957 Gravely lawn tractor than a motorcycle, so i went to work on the muffler system...not really caring about loudness but just wanting that high pitched "pop pop" to go away...welp, after trying a bunch of muffler mods (short of buying an aftermarket muffler i was afraid i would not like) i decided to re install the stock muffler after i drilled ten 1/4" holes all around the rear doughnut (ass end of muffler)...result not very loud, although i loved the low sound on acceleration...but when i let off the throttle, the "pop pop" returned until i accelerated again...(back to the drawing board)
so then i bought ten 1/4" lag bolts and screwed them in the holes i had drilled...
now (a big mystery to me) i have this very pleasing and very smooth rumble...no more "pop pop" even after letting off the throttle...i have no idea what's going on here...(doesn't make sense to me)...I'm starting to wonder if the header mount (at the engine) may have been out of wack when i bought the bike (of course i had to loosen and re-tighten it each time i took off the muffler) or maybe the muffler wasn't seated right when i bought it...who knows but now i got this sound i love...a little too quiet yes, but deep and very pleasing to my ear...and no more "pop pop"
I LOVE THIS BIKE!!!!!
thanks for the responses by the way...i know i will keep jacking with the sound cause it's kinda fun...and i will try a lot of the suggestions i have read here on this board..:):)
